Seminar:- Schemes on Searching New Soft Gamma-ray Pulsars
This research project focuses on a newly developed type of pulsar, called the soft gamma-ray pulsar, which is GeV-quiet and has a spectral turnover below 100 MeV. There are currently 6 known soft gamma-ray pulsars. The theory on how they emit the low energy regime of gamma-ray can be explained by the special viewing geometry of these pulsars. The line of sight has to be close to the magnetic axis such that the synchrotron radiation from the accelerating in-coming charges from the inner side of the null charge surface can be observed. For more understanding on this kind of pulsar, we want to expand the population size. They analyze the Pass 8 data from the Fermi Large Area Telescope at energy below 200 MeV of 41 selected pulsars which have high spin-down power normalized by the square of the distance. From the spectral analysis, it is revealed that soft gamma-ray emissions are seen at some locations of the selected pulsars. In the future, timing analysis has to be performed to confirm that those emissions originate from pulsars.
