IAS Program on Particle Theory:- New Semiconductor Devices for Dark Matter Detection
Dark matter remains a fundamental mystery in particle physics, and extensive efforts have been made to detect it in labs. In this talk, the speaker will summarize the recent progress in sub-GeV dark matter detection with semiconductors and introduce his team’s new idea to probe sub-MeV dark matter with doped semiconductors. He will also discuss the origin of the unexplored backgrounds in current detectors and demonstrate their team’s dual-sided Charge-Coupled Device(CCD) design can significantly reduce some those backgrounds.
