Although Hawking radiation was derived from an effective-theory calculation, many believe that it is robust, and insensitive to UltraViolet(UV) physics. The speaker and his team analyze Hawking radiation in more detail, paying attention to its time dependence, and find that it is in fact sensitive to UV physical effects. They conclude that the effective-theory prediction is not reliable. They will also comment on the applications of this analysis to other related problems.
