Physics of the World Beyond:Frontiers in Astrophysics Online Lecture Series- From the Night Sky to the “God Particle”… and Back
The night sky often leads us to the sense of awe and mystery at the heart of our search for meaning. The deep need to better understand those dim lights in the sky sparked a long and surprising intellectual journey through the sky, the world around us, the subatomic realm and the deep connections between all of these domains. We will talk about some of those connections, and how they led to the proposal, search for, and discovery of the socalled “God Particle”- the Higgs boson- and its relation to the small- and large-scale structure of the Universe.
