Lecture:- The Universe, Life and Everything- 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics
《宇宙、生命與萬物- 2019諾貝爾物理學獎》高等研究院與理學院聯合諾貝爾獎普及科學講座
James PEEBLES, Michel MAYOR, and Didier QUELOZ receive the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics for helping to understand our place in the Universe through advances in theoretical cosmology and the detection of extrasolar planets. Through detailed modelling, with the help of analytical as well as numerical methods, Peebles has explored fundamental properties of our Universe and uncovered unexpected new physics. Peebles has helped to provide a whole new view of our cosmos. Since ancient times, humans have speculated whether there are worlds like our own. Now we know from the field pioneered by Mayor and Queloz. Their transformational discovery forever changed our conception of humankind’s place in the Universe. Today more than 4,000 exoplanets in about 3,000 planetary systems have been confirmed. Transiting exoplanets are particularly suitable for detecting atmospheres and continuing the search for life. This lecture covers many of the main points of the prize-winning implications.
