SEMINAR:- CMB Polarization Foregrounds for Primordial Gravitational Wave Detection

Gravitational waves can originate from astrophysical sources(e.g., mergers of binary compact objects) and cosmic inflations. While astrophysical gravitational waves(AGWs) are already detected and awarded a Nobel Prize in 2017, primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) from cosmic inflation have not been detected. The detection of PGWs through CMB B-mode signal is very difficult because the B-mode signal is seriously contaminated by Galactic foreground polarization.

Therefore, a pressing issue is to have an accurate description of the CMB foreground polarization for reliable removal of CMB foregrounds and correct measurements of the B-mode signal. In this talk, The speaker will first review two polarized foreground components from Galactic dust, namely Anomalous Microwave Emission(AME) and Thermal Dust Emission(TDE). Then, he will discuss theoretical foundations for the polarization of AME and TDE and present our new theoretical predictions for their polarization levels.

Finally, he will confront theoretical models with available observational data from Planck and discuss its implications for Astrophysics and Early Universe studies.
